This is an easy walk which can be elongated if necessary.
Park in the visitor carpark in Clapham village and turn right when you walk out.
You can either follow the signs for the cave and nature trail direct or, when you reach the church, turn right. This route will take you through a couple of tunnels as you walk up a limestone cobbled path in the estate grounds.
When you reach the top of this path, it forks. You need to take the left path and it continues as a steady but slight climb.
Just before you reach the top of the path, there is a stile over the wall to the left which takes you down into Trow Gill Gorge. This path eventually brings you to the show caves.
They only do timed, guided walks into the cave (ring ahead to check times 01524251242). It is an interesting visit, it lasts about an hour and is safe for young children and dogs on a short lead.
There are benches outside so take a picnic. The little shop does sell hot and cold drinks and snacks but not food.
From here you can go back the way you came and visit Gaping Gill up on the moors or follow the path from the caves which takes you down the nature trail. Keep your dog under control on this route if it is busy. This path winds its way back down to the village and is named after Reginald Farrer who travelled the world collecting new species of plants which he planted in the grounds.
